About The Position

Maintains a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel. Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures. Controls traffic by directing it. Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities, interviewing witnesses, and obtaining signatures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successfully pass criminal background check.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of investigative procedures, de-escalating violence, facility security, infant/child abduction and protection mechanisms.

Responsibilities

  • Patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Preventing losses and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures.
  • Controlling traffic by directing it.
  • Completing reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
  • Interviewing witnesses and obtaining signatures.
  • Responding quickly and effectively to emergent and non-emergent situations.
  • Ensuring only authorized staff are admitted onto facility premises.
  • Escorting visitors, patients, and staff to and from parking areas.
  • Assisting motorists who become stranded on facility property.
  • Performing all aspects of care and service in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supporting and maintaining a culture of safety and quality.
  • Maintaining current information in lost and found logs and notifying individuals when items reported as missing are located.
  • Issuing facility keys to authorized facility staff.
  • Serving as a member of the Fire Response Team and responding to code RED.
  • Investigating incidents of unusual circumstances reported by facility staff, visitors, physicians, or patients and reporting all incidents, verbally or through general incident form, by the end of each shift.
  • Writing accurate, clear, and legible incident reports and documenting investigatory steps and results.
  • Responding to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients, including assisting patient care staff in restraining patients.
  • Patrolling buildings and grounds; inspecting doors, windows, and locks to determine the level of security.
  • Patrolling parking areas to detect any irregularities.
  • Inspecting outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of facility property.
  • Reporting all safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections.
  • Periodically conducting security classes for new staff and refresher security classes for current staff.
  • Assisting and giving courteous responses to any inquiries made by patients, visitors, or staff.
  • Monitoring the facility using electronic security equipment (closed-circuit television, alarms, etc.).
  • Enforcing all facility policies and procedures as assigned by administration and the Security Department Manager.
  • Participating in performance improvement activities.
  • Adhering to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completing annual education requirements.
  • Maintaining regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
  • Reporting to work on time and as scheduled, completing work within designated time.
  • Wearing identification while on duty, using computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Completing in-services and returning in a timely fashion.
  • Attending annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Attending at least 10 staff meetings annually, reading and returning all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participating in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complying with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicating the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
