About The Position

Under the supervision of the Security Coordinator, the Security Officer will be responsible for monitoring, patrolling, and enforcing security protocols at any/all assigned Pittsburgh Water facilities. The role involves ensuring the safety and protection of facility personnel and property against various threats, including fire, trespass, civil disturbance, theft, acts of terrorism, and sabotage. Responsibilities include conducting routine checks, overseeing visitor management, providing emergency first aid, assisting with traffic control, and responding to alarms and service calls. The position requires compliance with all legal requirements and may involve other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Considerable knowledge of large-scale security policies and procedures.
• Working knowledge of security best practices and local law.
• Ability to follow protocol and procedures.
• Basic technology skills including security systems, surveillance systems, and Microsoft Office.
• Sound judgement, decision making and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills, ethical, and reliable.
• Ability to work with employees, contractors, and vendors at all levels.
• Ability to maintain CPR/First Aid certification - training provided by Pittsburgh Water upon hire.
• Ability to walk or stand for extended amounts of time and perform moderately heavy laboring work.
• High School Diploma, or diploma from an accredited vocational school, or General Educational Development (GED) certificate or equivalent.
• Must meet criteria and obtain ACT 235 (with or without firearms) within one year of hire.
• Applicant must present a current, valid Class C (Class 1) PA Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of application or prior to appointment.
• A valid driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment.
• Applicant must have permanent residency within one of the following Pennsylvania counties at the time of appointment and remain a resident within one of the noted counties throughout employment with the PWSA: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Lawrence, Indiana, Washington, or Westmoreland.
• Ability to successfully pass a thorough investigation consisting of a criminal history check, verification of prior employment and performance, reference, and credentials checks, and in some cases credit history.
• Applicants are subject to a System for Award Management (SAM) or any successor system search as maintained by the General Services Administration (GSA) to ensure compliance with federal procurement and non-procurement programs.

Nice To Haves

• Two (2) years of experience working in the security field or a background in law enforcement or Armed forces.

Responsibilities

• Enforce regulations designed to prevent breaches of security; exercise judgment and use discretion in deciding first response tactics.
• Perform routine checks of offices, laboratories, corridors, parking lots, storage sites, and other such locations, as appropriate for each round.
• Perform all necessary services to ensure the safety and protection of facility personnel and property against injury, loss, or damage from preventable causes, including, but not limited to, fire, trespass, civil disturbance, theft, acts of terrorism and sabotage.
• Open, close, and secure windows and doors; check vaults, cabinets and security doors, as applicable.
• Oversee visitor management at assigned Pittsburgh Water facilities; verification of visitors’ identification and assignment of visitor badges; screening suspicious visitors, solicitors, and escorting banned visitors from Pittsburgh Water property.
• Provide and maintain a high level of security in and around the buildings, and as necessary, assist in emergency management situations, acts of terrorism, bomb threats, internal disorder, civilian demonstrations, or other criminal acts which adversely affect employee security and/or safety, property, and the general public lawfully in the building or on the grounds.
• Comply with established procedures pertaining to lost and found articles.
• Assist with traffic operations at Pittsburgh Water facilities to control the flow of traffic.
• Conduct rover foot patrols, both interior and exterior, as well as motorized patrol (in Pittsburgh Water provided patrol vehicles); respond to fire, intrusion, and other alarms; answer service calls and document all reports of crime, security violations, or incidents; provide emergency first aid and escorts; assist with emergency evacuations; and manage vehicle check points and conduct inspections.
• Comply with all legal requirements.
• Other related duties as assigned or required.
