Barbier Security Group (BSG) is looking for a dedicated Part Time Security Officer to join our team at a premier shopping center located in San Rafael. In this role, you will be managing perimeter and access control while ensuring that guests and employees feel both secure and welcomed through exceptional presentation and customer service. Beyond standard foot patrols, you will play an active role in maintaining site safety by managing active parking enforcement, including the coordination of towing for non-compliant vehicles.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
Eligibility to work in the United States.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Possess a current California Guard Card License.
A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for applicable sites.
Reliable transportation is necessary.
Proficient in basic computer and smartphone usage.
Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to create accurate reports; additional language skills are a plus.
Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, particularly when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in adherence to all laws, regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
Ensure compliance with both company and client policies and procedures while being open to performance improvement.
Possess a clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
Ability to stand and walk for long shifts, often for several hours at a time, including traversing outdoor areas with uneven surfaces, without significant physical strain.
Regularly climb stairs and navigate multi-level buildings to perform patrols and check all areas.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move or secure equipment, and assist with other duties as necessary.
Ability to withstand various weather conditions during outdoor patrols, including hot, cold, rainy, or windy weather.
Ability to handle and operate security equipment, such as radios, keys, and locks.
Ability to sprint short distances if needed to respond quickly to emergencies or incidents.
Capable of working long hours while remaining alert and focused throughout the shift.
De-escalate stressful situations with professionalism and patience.
Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend to check low-level areas, secure entrances, or assist in emergencies.
Strong vision and hearing to observe surroundings, monitor security systems, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.

Utilize strong vision and hearing abilities to monitor surroundings, identify potential security threats, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.
De-escalate stressful or potentially volatile situations with professionalism, patience, and effective communication skills.
Maintain focus and remain alert throughout long shifts, ensuring the safety and security of the premises.
Assist in evacuations or other emergency responses, utilizing physical stamina and agility to support individuals in need.
Keep accurate and detailed activity logs, documenting all patrols, incidents, and observations during the shift.
Prepare comprehensive reports for any incidents ensuring records are clear and precise for review.
