About The Position

The Security Officer patrols and secures hospital property, employees, patients, and visitors. The officer consults with and keeps the supervisor informed about activities, needs, and problems in assigned areas. The position is with the Security Department at Mount Sinai West and is listed as full-time, nights, and weekends.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• At least one year of experience as a security officer in an institutional setting or in law enforcement.
• New York State Security Guard certification.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
• Monitor visitor conduct on hospital premises and question unauthorized persons as needed.
• Report safety or fire hazards and security violations.
• Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel and visitors.
• Participate in investigations, maintain records, and prepare incident reports and other security-related documents.
• Secure or unlock offices and facilities as required.
• Secure patient valuables and lost-and-found articles and maintain logs of items received.
• Follow established hospital and department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection-control requirements.
• Maintain department supplies and equipment in working order.
• Requisition supplies and equipment as needed or inform the supervisor about equipment needs.
• Use hospital vehicles during emergencies to obtain life-saving equipment from outside the institution.
• Restrain psychiatric patients as needed.
• Escort personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings.
