About The Position

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate with a minimum of 3 years of experience in security services and customer service. The ideal applicant will possess outstanding verbal communication and report writing skills, along with the ability to excel under pressure. As a Security Officer in the Veterans Affairs (VA) Emergency Department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors. As a Security Officer at the Mather VA Emergency Department or McClellan Outpatient Clinic, you will be instrumental in creating a safe and secure environment for all who seek care. Your efforts will ensure both physical safety and a reassuring sense of security for patients, staff, and visitors alike.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in security services
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in customer service
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding report writing skills
  • Ability to excel under pressure
  • Must pass a medical and psychological test
  • Must pass a background check
  • Ability to commute to Mather, CA 95655 (Required)
  • Ability to relocate to Mather, CA 95655 before starting work (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of the emergency department and surrounding areas to identify any unusual or suspicious activities.
  • Perform routine checks of all entrances and exits to maintain security integrity.
  • Monitor and regulate access to the emergency department, ensuring only authorized personnel and visitors enter restricted areas.
  • Verify identification and maintain meticulous visitor logs as required.
  • Respond decisively to emergencies, including medical situations, disturbances, or security incidents.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with emergency procedures and protocols specific to the VA facility.
  • Effectively de-escalate potentially volatile situations involving patients, visitors, or staff.
  • Provide compassionate support and guidance to distressed individuals.
  • Vigilantly observe and report any behaviors that may threaten safety, such as aggressive or erratic actions from patients or visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with all security policies and procedures throughout the emergency department.
  • Accurately document incidents involving disturbances, injuries, or security breaches and prepare comprehensive reports as necessary.
  • Maintain precise records of daily activities and security-related events.
  • Engage closely with healthcare professionals to support patient care while strictly upholding safety protocols.
  • Participate in training and drills with medical staff to ensure a coordinated response to various scenarios.
  • Conduct thorough safety inspections of equipment and facilities to identify potential hazards or security vulnerabilities.
  • Proactively recommend enhancements to security measures and overall safety in the emergency department.
  • Provide exemplary assistance to patients and visitors by offering clear directions, information, and support in navigating the facility.
  • Address all inquiries and concerns regarding security matters with confidence.
  • Participate actively in crisis management planning and the implementation of effective interventions for incidents involving disruptive behavior or potential threats.
