About The Position

The security services officer will be directly responsible to the building principal and/or the Supervisor of Security, Safety Services. The officer will monitor the conduct of all persons in and around the boundaries of the designated facility. This role provides maximum security for individuals within the buildings and grounds of USD 259 and at school-sponsored events. The officer is expected to be knowledgeable of all routine security and emergency crisis procedures, as well as BOE policies pertaining to USD 259 properties, personnel, and students. Responsibilities include patrolling assigned sites by vehicle and on foot, reporting violations, preparing incident reports, responding to disruptive individuals, assisting in routine and emergency situations, and providing after-hours duties as requested. The position requires appropriate communication and people skills, especially when working with high-risk behavioral students, and attendance at certified training and mandatory inservice and law enforcement training courses. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be skilled and communicate effectively in dealing with students, personnel, and staff
  • Must be able to multi-task and remain calm during stressful situations
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, which may be determined and validated by testing
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents and staff
  • Must be able to work as a team member and respond to volatile situations while remaining calm
  • Must be able to attend and pass required security training
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed
  • Ability to perform as an effective team player
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building
  • Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude
  • Use good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid Kansas Driver's License

  • Previous law enforcement and/or security related experience preferred
  • Possesses the appropriate communication and people skills in working with high risk behavioral students

Responsibilities

  • Provide maximum security for individuals within the buildings and grounds of USD 259 and at school sponsored events
  • Monitor the conduct of all persons in and around the boundaries of the designated facility
  • Patrols, in a vehicle and on foot, the parking area, grounds and buildings of assigned site and reports to the building principal and/or designee any violations which impair the safety of persons and/or property
  • Prepares accurate and complete security incident reports in a timely manner
  • Responds to requests of the building principal and/or designee in dealing with individuals disruptive to school operations
  • Assists in all routine and emergency situations pertaining to USD 259 properties, personnel and students
  • Provides after hour duties as may be requested by the building principal and/or designee
  • Attends certified training and mandatory inservice training
  • Attends mandatory law enforcement training courses
  • Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor
