About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This role involves enforcing policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors, and staff, and patrolling and securing facility buildings and grounds as assigned. The Security Officer monitors the conduct of visitors, reports safety and security violations, and responds to requests for assistance. They are expected to assist with problem-solving, escort personnel to and from parking areas, and maintain records by preparing incident reports. The position requires the ability to work with all age groups and prioritize calls for service based on urgency and safety needs. Security officers must be able to de-escalate stressful situations and maintain awareness of local laws affecting conduct on private property. Essential skills include effective communication, professional report writing, and the physical ability to perform basic security functions.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • Expected to work in highly stressful situations in which they are to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible.
  • Required to maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.
  • Communicate effectively with all customers.
  • Ability to write professional reports.
  • Demonstrate the physical ability to perform basic security officers functions as trained.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • College or vocational education is preferred.
  • May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred.
  • Basic certification by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors and staff.
  • Patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds as assigned.
  • Monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
  • Reports safety, fire hazards or security violations.
  • Responds to all requests for assistance from employees, patients/residents and visitors.
  • Assists with any and all situation; i.e., problem-solving with positive outcomes.
  • May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
  • Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
