Requirements

  • Minimum - High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license.
  • IAHSS Basic certification within 6 months of hire
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.
  • 3 years of relevant security-related experience (example: loss prevention, property protection, crisis intervention, first responder).
  • Experience in healthcare security, corporate security, military service, or law enforcement.
  • Experience in operating camera systems and electronic access control systems.
  • Experience leading a team in daily activities.
  • Knowledge of security policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of responsibilities in responding to emergencies.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Skill in conducting security related investigations, corrective action development, and follow-through.
  • Management of aggressive patients/visitors/staff.
  • Good judgment in handling risk situations.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Physical ability to walk rounds, handle violent people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, and other State and Federal agency contacts.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol facility/grounds and assist visitors with directions and act as the first responder to emergencies and disturbances.
  • Interact with law enforcement, patients, visitors and staff about security or safety issues.
  • Properly document daily activities and incident reports, using computer software programs.
  • Monitor and operate access control systems, security camera systems, intercoms, two-way radios, telephones, and alarm systems.
  • Provide for afterhours phone coverage for MEMC and support for the consortium.
  • Conduct investigation of incidents; respirator fit testing; hazard surveillance surveys; participation in emergency drills; and public assistance requests.
  • Provide shift supervision and direction for security officers on duty.
  • Service as a certified IAHSS instructor for SEARHC operations for 36 hours over a recurring two-year period.
