About The Position

The purpose of this position is to enforce established policies and procedures in a manner that provides a safe and secure environment for USSRC guests and employees. The Security Officer is responsible for properly locking and securing USSRC buildings, offices, gates and other property in an accurate and timely manner. They must meet or exceed regulatory and professional standards for policies and procedures governing the interaction and cooperation with law enforcement agencies, and comply with and enforce all USSRC policies and procedures. This role involves preparing and distributing reports regarding security violations, hazards and occurrences, and promptly escorting guests and employees to safety areas during threats of severe weather. The officer will operate walk-through and/or handheld weapons detection devices and conduct bag checks. They must meet or exceed the expectations of the Security Shift Supervisor for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.

Requirements

  • High school or G.E.D.
  • Ability to patrol all areas of the USSRC on foot or in a vehicle and deal with unusual situations in a calm, effective and efficient manner.
  • Good communication skills to interact with general public and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a security guard or in law enforcement strongly desired OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of general law enforcement strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of Windows based operating systems strongly desired.
  • Walking and climbing stairs to patrol facilities and grounds for duration of shift, lifting to 40lbs.
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time (4-12 hours) or for duration of shift.
  • Sight, reading, feeling and wrist movements to inspect grounds, facilities, handle documents, operate computer terminal, and operate security equipment including company vehicle.
  • Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisors, employees, and guests in person and over the telephone.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly escort guests and employees to safety areas during threats of severe weather.
  • Operate walk-through and/or handheld weapons detection devices (e.g., metal detectors, advanced weapons detection portals) in accordance with training and USSRC procedures.
  • Conduct bag checks by visually and physically inspecting bags, backpacks, purses, and other items for weapons, contraband, or prohibited items.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Security Shift Supervisor for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
