About The Position

This is a Part Time Flex Security Officer position in Asheville, NC. The role requires availability for all schedules and shifts, including short notice for call-offs. Duties include patrolling buildings and grounds, monitoring for safety and security issues, responding to disturbances, and maintaining an orderly flow of traffic. The officer will also be responsible for alarm response, writing reports, and assisting management in emergencies. This position has no supervisory responsibilities and reports to various levels of management and supervision.

Requirements

  • Must be available to work all schedules and shifts, and be available to work on short notice for call-offs.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • State Security Officer License (where applicable).
  • Certification in the use of weapons, State Armed License if required.
  • Valid Driver's License, if in driving position.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification may be needed.
  • Minimum of 25 years of age.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle registration check, and drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol buildings and grounds of industrial plants or commercial establishments, docks, logging camp areas, or work sites.
  • Patrol lobbies, corridors, and public rooms.
  • Confer with management, interview guests and employees, and interrogate persons to detect infringements and investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalisms, and accidents.
  • Patrol public areas to detect fires, unsafe conditions, and missing or inoperative safety equipment.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Perform and set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings or cold storage rooms.
  • Register at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
  • Inspect assigned areas and record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment.
  • Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
  • Notify staff of the presence of persons with questionable reputations.
  • Permit authorized persons and regulate vehicle/pedestrian traffic at the plant entrance to maintain an orderly flow.
  • Drive radio-equipped car through the client's establishment, check alarms and locate sources of alarm.
  • Sound alarm or call police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Assist management and enforcement officers in emergencies.
  • Apprehend unauthorized persons found on property, using armed force if necessary, and release them to the custody of authorities.
  • Contact supervisor by radio or telephone to report irregularities and obtain further instructions.
  • Write investigation and automobile usage reports.
  • Be available to work all schedules and shifts, and be available to work on short notice for call-offs.
  • Be trained and qualified to work multiple posts, in case of call-offs or vacations.
