About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position involves enforcing policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors, and staff, and patrolling and securing facility buildings and grounds as assigned. The role requires monitoring the conduct of visitors, reporting safety and security concerns, and responding to requests for assistance. Security officers are expected to assist with problem-solving, de-escalate stressful situations, and maintain awareness of local laws. The position may involve access to areas where medications are stored for specific job-related functions.

Requirements

  • Communicate effectively with all customers.
  • Ability to write professional reports.
  • Demonstrate the physical ability to perform basic security officers functions as trained.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • College or vocational education is preferred.
  • Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred.
  • May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.
  • Basic certification by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors and staff.
  • Patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds as assigned.
  • Monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
  • Reports safety, fire hazards or security violations.
  • Responds to all requests for assistance from employees, patients/residents and visitors.
  • Assists with any and all situation; i.e., problem-solving with positive outcomes.
  • May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
  • Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • De-escalate stressful situations as soon as possible.
  • Maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.
