About The Position

The Security Officer protects the interests of the Hospital by policing buildings and grounds. Prevents fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry through patrolling hospital grounds and securing doors, windows, and gates. Responds to emergency situations, and documents any incidents. Escorts personnel to and from parking lots and performs other job-related tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills with ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Typing skills helpful.
  • Must be fluent in the English language with fluency in a second language desirable.
  • Valid and current State driver’s license
  • High school or GED required

Responsibilities

  • Polices Hospital buildings and grounds according to established schedule.
  • Adheres to established schedule and procedures on checking doors, windows, gates, etc., for security.
  • Constantly polices Hospital grounds and buildings to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
  • Follows proper notification procedures upon identifying security violation.
  • Investigates and handles security situations, such as accidents, criminal activity, and the presence of unauthorized persons or vehicles.
  • Effectively handles security situations, such as larceny, vandalism, assaults, alarms, accidents, safety hazards, abductions and fires; diplomatically solves problems within the limits of departmental policy.
  • Accurately interprets policies and procedures and their application in circumstances not yet encountered.
  • Demonstrates sound decision-making skills, taking actions that are logical, timely and proportionate to situation.
  • Courteously questions unauthorized persons concerning their presence on Hospital property in a tactful, professional manner.
  • Maintains awareness of Hospital security, taking action in advance of preventable problems.
  • Promptly notifies supervisor of any significant incidents that have occurred.
  • Provides information, assistance, or escort to visitors, patients and Hospital personnel as required
  • Provides courteous assistance to visitors, patients and other staff, giving accurate information or directing to appropriate party as necessary.
  • Offers and provides escort to parking lots and other hospital sites as needed.
  • Willingly assists and cooperates with employees, supervisors and persons from other departments regarding security-related issues.
  • Hand-delivers packages and materials in emergency or time-sensitive situations.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of all technical and non-technical areas relating to job duties.
  • Participates in seminars, conferences and in-services as appropriate for job.
  • Keeps abreast of current policies, procedures and laws pertaining to areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates initiative in enhancing knowledge relating to job and seeking greater responsibilities.
  • Preserves and protects confidentiality of patient, employee, and Hospital information
  • Demonstrates discretion in confidential matters concerning the Hospital, patients and Hospital personnel.
  • Treats patient and employee files, documents and other materials with the utmost security.
  • Prepares clear and concise reports, such as Incident Reports, in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date logs and other paperwork required for job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule in staffing alternating or rotating shifts, and willingly provides back-up and assistance to staff as needed during absences or emergencies.
  • Cooperatively participates in special projects for department or Hospital as requested.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.
