About The Position

Provide a professional, visible, armed security presence at the City Hall public entrance to protect employees and visitors, control access, deter and respond to potential threats, and maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment in coordination with the Weslaco Police Department.

Requirements

  • Must have High School diploma: or equivalent (GED).
  • One year of college-level education, specialized advanced training, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Level III Commissioned Security Officer (Armed Security Guard) license required.
  • Minimum six plus years as a police officer, reserve police or level III Security Officer.
  • Must have current valid Class "C" Texas Driver License and be insurable.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work; may be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Provide a visible armed security presence at the front booth by wearing the assigned security uniform and carrying a handgun and other approved defensive equipment in accordance with Texas DPS Level III requirements and City policy to serve as a deterrent and first line of defense.
  • Enforce City Hall security protocols and facility policies, including restrictions on weapons, prohibited items, and disruptive conduct, by issuing verbal directives, denying access when warranted, and directing individuals to leave the premises as necessary to ensure a safe, secure, and orderly environment.
  • Maintain order and security by monitoring the City Hall lobby, front entrance, and immediate exterior area to detect suspicious persons, weapons, or unusual activity in order to prevent and deter threats to staff and visitors.
  • Personnel authorized to perform temporary detention may, with appropriate training, restrain and hold a suspect (e.g., an assaultive individual or a person brandishing a weapon) for transfer to law enforcement. This authority includes the use of handcuffs and approved defensive tactics when necessary but does not extend to booking, formal arrest processing, or conducting investigative follow-up.
  • Supports emergency response operations by assisting with lockdown implementation, evacuation procedures, perimeter security, and directing responding law enforcement officers to the location of a threat, providing capabilities comparable to those of a fixed post security or police assignment.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
