About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This part-time Security Officer role involves enforcing policies and procedures for patients, visitors, and staff, patrolling and securing facility buildings and grounds, and responding to requests for assistance. The position requires monitoring conduct, reporting safety hazards, assisting with problem-solving, and potentially escorting personnel. The role also involves maintaining records, preparing incident reports, and working with all age groups. Security officers must prioritize calls for service, de-escalate stressful situations, and be aware of local laws affecting conduct on private property. Effective communication, professional report writing, and the physical ability to perform basic security functions are essential.

Requirements

  • Communicate effectively with all customers.
  • Ability to write professional reports.
  • Demonstrate the physical ability to perform basic security officers functions as trained.
  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • Security officers are expected to work in highly stressful situations in which they are to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible.
  • All security officers are requires to maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • College or vocational education is preferred.
  • Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred.
  • May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.
  • Basic certification by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors and staff.
  • Patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds as assigned.
  • Monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
  • Reports safety, fire hazards or security violations.
  • Responds to all requests for assistance from employees, patients/residents and visitors.
  • Assists with any and all situation; i.e., problem-solving with positive outcomes.
  • May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
  • Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • De-escalate stressful situations as soon as possible.
  • Maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.
