About The Position

The Midnight Security Officer is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the College community and protecting College and personal property. This position performs a variety of public safety and security functions designed to promote the safety, well-being, and security of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and College assets. The Midnight Security Officer serves as a visible presence on campus, responds to emergencies and incidents, enforces College policies and applicable laws, provides assistance and information to the campus community, and supports a welcoming and secure environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to serving others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal history background check.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in routine and emergency situations.
  • Ability to walk, stand, drive, and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Ability to provide emergency first aid assistance.
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain all required departmental certifications and training.
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with members of the campus community and the public.
  • Ability to enforce laws, regulations, and policies fairly and consistently.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to representing Saint Mary's College in an honorable and impartial manner.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must not require visa sponsorship from the College, either now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in law enforcement, public safety, campus safety, military service, security, or a related field.
  • Experience preparing incident reports and conducting investigations.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • CPR, First Aid, or other emergency response certifications.
  • Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patrols of campus buildings and grounds to ensure the safety and security of the campus community and College property.
  • Secure and monitor campus facilities by locking and unlocking buildings according to established procedures.
  • Respond to incidents, accidents, alarms, emergencies, and requests for assistance in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents and accidents and complete reports in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide emergency first aid assistance and arrange transportation to medical facilities when necessary.
  • Enforce College policies, campus regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Enforce campus traffic and parking regulations and issue citations when appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource to students, employees, visitors, and guests by providing information, directions, and assistance.
  • Conduct and assist with fire and life safety inspections of campus buildings and grounds.
  • Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions and submit work orders for repairs involving lights, doors, locks, and other safety-related concerns.
  • Assist with traffic and pedestrian control during special events and campus activities.
  • Work collaboratively with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies when necessary.
  • Operate departmental vehicles, communication equipment, and other public safety equipment.
  • Successfully complete and maintain required departmental certifications and training.
  • Follow established departmental procedures and chain of command.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or Chief of Campus Public Safety.
