About The Position

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for patients, visitors, and employees, and for protecting hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. This role involves patrolling hospital buildings and grounds, checking for security breaches, and responding to alarms and disturbances. The officer will also manage parking violations, report unsafe conditions, and maintain communication with other staff and authorities. A key aspect of the role is diffusing crisis situations and ensuring the safety of all individuals within the hospital premises.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) or more years’ prior experience as a Law Enforcement Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Military Service, or Security Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Protect hospital buildings, assets, and premises.
  • Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
  • Check cars for parking authorization decals and issue parking violations as appropriate.
  • Tour buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates for security.
  • Question unauthorized persons and route or detain them.
  • Telephone Chesapeake Police Department for assistance as needed.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintain constant contact with the PBX operator and other Security staff via portable radio.
  • Write and complete case reports regarding incidents.
  • Respond to all alarms and requests for services, investigating disturbances.
  • Diffuse crisis situations utilizing a variety of communication and security techniques.
  • Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.
