About The Position

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, employees, visitors, and Center property. The position conducts patrols, monitors campus activity, responds to incidents, enforces Center policies and procedures, and documents security-related matters in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of law enforcement procedures
  • Basic knowledge of riot, crowd control procedures and proven ability to appropriately intervene in physical altercations
  • Excellent interpersonal, mediation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs
  • Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel and Outlook, etc.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Reading, writing and communicating fluently in English
  • Hearing and speaking to express ideas and/or exchange information in person or over the telephone
  • Seeing to read labels, posters, documents, PC screens, etc.
  • Sitting, standing, moving about or walking for occasional or frequent periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, two-way radio and other office equipment
  • Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects

Nice To Haves

  • Six months experience in a security or work-related capacity preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned campus areas and monitor for disturbances, safety hazards, suspicious activity, unauthorized persons, traffic violations, and other unusual conditions.
  • Conduct building, grounds, and security checks to protect students, employees, visitors, facilities, and Center property.
  • Enforce Center rules, policies, procedures, access requirements, student pass procedures, and parking and traffic regulations in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Respond to security incidents, disturbances, emergencies, and requests for assistance; use appropriate de-escalation and intervention techniques to help maintain order.
  • Receive complaints, gather preliminary information, and promptly report incidents or concerns to the appropriate supervisor or department.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely incident reports, logs, statements, and other required security documentation.
  • Provide escorts as directed and monitor access to designated areas to help prevent unauthorized entry, loss, damage, or misuse of Center property.
  • Operate assigned security equipment, including two-way radios, and support fleet-related security and reporting responsibilities as assigned.
  • Communicate professionally with students, staff, management, visitors, and emergency personnel while maintaining confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Participate in required training, drills, meetings, and other safety and security activities, and perform other related duties as assigned.
