Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations. Position Overview Selkirk Mental Health Centre (SMHC) Security Services is built around a recovery model where building relationships with patients, staff and the public is encouraged. SMHC is a 252-bed 24-hour facility that provides specialized inpatient mental health and acquired brain injury treatment and rehabilitation services to residents of Manitoba and Nunavut whose challenging needs cannot be met elsewhere in the provincial health care system. SMHC has five specialized patient programs: Acute, Geriatric, Rehabilitation, Forensic and Acquired Brain Injury that are delivered on a campus-like setting with several buildings located throughout the property, as well as three offsite community group homes located in Selkirk. SMHC is a facility with over 700 employees who work in a variety of roles. The security officer must have the skills and ability to deal with a variety of situations and interact with employees, patients, public and management. This position will also be required to work weekend shifts and holidays. The grounds are open and are accessible by individuals from the surrounding community. At times these individuals may pose a risk to patients and staff through their actions, such as videotaping patients, soliciting drugs, providing contraband, or vandalizing the grounds and buildings.
