The Florida Tech Department of Security Officers are responsible for campus surveillance and the patrol of buildings to provide a visible presence that deters crime. Officers respond to all emergencies and routine calls for service in a timely manner and coordinate effectively with police, fire, and emergency medical personnel. Additional responsibilities include providing general safety information through daily interaction with the campus community, monitoring campus activity, special events, and parking areas, assisting members of the community, enforcing traffic and parking regulations, and dispatching calls and answering campus security telephones. The position requires minor physical exertion, including pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting up to 25 pounds, as well as the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods without rest or assistance. Department of Security Officers operate within a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week environment. Due to the nature of the position, officers are expected to work an 80-hour pay cycle with a fluctuating schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Security Officer II - Role and Expectations: In addition to performing all duties and responsibilities of a Security Officer I, this position serves in an advanced capacity with expanded operational and leadership expectations. Officers are responsible for oversight of departmental transportation assets, including vehicles, low-speed vehicles (LSVs), and bicycle inventory. This includes assisting with maintenance scheduling, tracking, and coordination to ensure operational readiness of all equipment. Officers may assume incident leadership in the absence of a supervisor, taking charge of scenes, coordinating response efforts, and ensuring appropriate communication and documentation. When assigned, officers will serve in a temporary Field Training Officer (FTO) capacity, providing guidance, instruction, and evaluation of trainees in accordance with departmental training standards. This role requires a high level of initiative, accountability, and leadership, with the ability to manage resources, support team development, and ensure effective operations in dynamic environments.
