About The Position

The position exists to provide campus security to ensure all individuals' safety, security, and well-being within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Campus security aims to ensure all individuals' safety, security, and well-being within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The individuals include students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the campus property. This role requires specialized training and continuous education. All items listed below will be part of an in-depth training process that will build as the employee gets more experience. Each item will have training and standard operating procedures to ensure that the employee is equipped to meet the duties and requirements of the role. This position operates the following equipment but is not limited to: Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Computer Software and Computerized network video recordings and live cameras. General office equipment includes facsimile, copy, and telephones. AED and First Aid Kits. Motorized vehicle. Bicycle. De-escalation tools such as OC spray and handcuffs

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in a security officer position or similar position (for Security Officer I/Technician I).
  • Two (2) years of experience in a security officer position or similar position (for Security Officer II/Technician II).
  • Appropriate education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess and maintain a current State of Colorado Driver’s License at time of hire and must not have acquired more than twelve (12) points in the last five (5) years.
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical activity such as walking/standing for extended periods of time, walking up and down stairs of multiple story buildings, and assisting in subduing physically combative persons.
  • Must be able to speak and comprehend English fluently.
  • This position has been designated as essential personnel and incumbents are required to respond after hours during emergencies and report to work for regularly assigned shifts during emergency campus closure.
  • Employees in this position will be required to work either a straight or rotating shift and may be required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Employees in this position will be required to "stay over late" or "come in early" to "cover" shifts as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to provide off-hour phone contact information to be accessible during non-work hours in case of emergencies or to cover unscheduled staffing shortages.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a Police Department Background Check which may include: Personnel History Questionnaire, Integrity Interview, Polygraph Examination, Finger Print Check, Drug Screen, Credit/Civil Check, Criminal History and Driving Infractions Check, Reference Checks, and Post-Conditional Offer Pre-Placement Physical and Psychological Examination.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Patrolling the exterior and interior jurisdiction of the campus by way of a vehicle, bicycle, and on foot.
  • Physical Security: Inspect and secure physical barriers, gates, fences, and locks. Ensure that security measures are in place and functioning correctly.
  • Providing assistance and escorts to faculty, staff, and students after dark.
  • Emergency Response: Act swiftly and appropriately in emergencies such as fires, medical incidents, or security breaches. Know how to operate fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers. Coordinate with local authorities and emergency services as needed.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Enforcing parking violations and writing citations.
  • Assisting with traffic control.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports for non-criminal incidents, property crimes, and non-injury accidents.
  • Utilizing security systems for safety and crime awareness and deterrent.
  • Manage crowds and ensure order during events or gatherings. Use crowd control techniques and equipment to maintain safety.
  • Conduct risk assessments such as fire hazards, physical environment, and crime opportunities.
  • Administer basic first aid when needed. Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies.
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Ensure compliance with security-related legal requirements.
