About The Position

The Security Officer 2 is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff within Mercyhealth facilities. This role involves patrolling buildings and grounds, responding to calls and emergencies, monitoring security equipment, and maintaining a visible deterrent to crime. The officer will also be involved in incident investigation, training new staff, and assisting with various site-specific security needs, including MedFlight operations and deceased patient identification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with police, security, or military background.
  • Successful completion of all department required training such as Level 3 TACT training, handcuffing, OC spray, ASP baton, and physical control tactics training, etc. required within 12 months for new hires. Must maintain this proficiency on an annual basis.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth’s HR-01 Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Able to interact with customers and communicate clearly.
  • Able to manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others following Mercyhealth principles of customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare security experience preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Basic Computer skills preferred; Word/Outlook/Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors, and Mercyhealth partners in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking lots to detect irregularities and provide a visible deterrence to crime.
  • Inspect doors, windows, and locks to ensure a high level of security.
  • Respond to dispatch/security service calls and overhead emergency code calls.
  • Check grounds and areas for cleanliness and safety.
  • Perform parking lot patrols and enforce Mercyhealth parking policy.
  • Notify management/maintenance staff of repair needs through work orders.
  • Assist with fire drills and other drills as requested.
  • Write clear and accurate daily reports of shift activities and irregularities.
  • Provide initial investigation and documentation of unusual incidents.
  • Orient and train security staff at respective sites.
  • Monitor the Mercyhealth environment using electronic security equipment (CCTV, Alarms, etc.).
  • Ensure partners and contractors display required identification.
  • Perform duties pertinent to site-specific requirements.
  • Ensure the safety of all during MedFlight takeoffs and landings.
  • Assist with identification of deceased patients and verification of funeral home/Medical Examiner's Office personnel credentials.
