About The Position

The Security Officer 2 position involves patrolling hospitals, buildings, grounds, and associated areas to prevent, investigate, and document criminal activity such as arson, theft, and vandalism. This role includes monitoring and responding to security, fire, and environmental alarms, as well as assisting in follow-up actions. The officer will respond to emergency calls for assistance and disasters, investigate unusual incidents reported by staff, visitors, physicians, and patients, and provide excellent customer service. The primary goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment. Duties may involve extensive walking, standing, and/or running, and responding to and resolving problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances. The role requires handling disruptive individuals with verbal intervention techniques, and potentially physical intervention for combative individuals. Traffic control assistance may also be required. The officer will complete accurate reports and incident documentation, control evidence, valuables, and lost/found items, and operate University of Miami vehicles in accordance with regulations. This position operates in an independent atmosphere with minimal supervision and high public contact, and requires completion of all mandatory training programs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Must be punctual, dependable, and flexible.
  • Excellent customer service skills required to handle all levels of personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Valid State of Florida driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Notifies local police department when backup is necessary.
  • Inspects building, equipment, and access points.
  • Permits entry of allowed personnel after verifying identity.
  • Informs violators of policy and procedures and restrains trespassers.
  • Controls traffic by directing drivers.
  • Checks surveillance cameras periodically to identify disruptions or unlawful acts.
  • Submits reports of surveillance activity and unusual occurrences.
  • Secures all exits, doors, and windows after end of operations.
  • Investigates people for suspicious activity or possessions.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

  • Completes all mandatory training programs.
