About The Position

The Security Lieutenant (shift manager) is responsible for managing and maintaining surveillance of Viejas property, including the gaming complex, outlet center, and the reservation, during their assigned shift. The primary goal is to ensure the safety and protection of tribal assets and to provide a secure environment for guests and team members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possess a valid Guard Card, Exposed Firearms Permit, Baton Permit, and Chemical Agent Permit. (Will require proof of application and payment of fees if Guard Card and Exposed Firearms Permit not in immediate possession.)
  • Must pass the Security Department’s assessment test.
  • Must be age 21 years of age or older.
  • Management/leadership experience required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in the English language, including the ability to write reports that can be understood by the CEO, COO, General Manager, Tribal Council, legal staff, court officers, and law enforcement.
  • Must have a high degree of common sense.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to type 30 wpm (a skills test may be required).
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills, such as the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to think quickly in an emergency.
  • Ability to deescalate high stress situations.
  • Ability to resolve problems as they arise and handle situations without supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of guests or team members of organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work in a professional high-pressure environment while demonstrating and maintaining good personal relation/people skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under stress.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to adjust to change.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Possess certification in First Aid, CPR, or AED (or obtains with 90 days of being hired).
  • California Responsible Beverage Service Training required upon hire.
  • 5 or more years of military service, casino security, and/or law enforcement experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Security Watch Commander, with overall responsibility for security operations during the assigned shift.
  • Provide support to the Director of Security and fill in as needed.
  • Responsible for scheduling personnel to adequately cover the Casino, Outlet Center, and Reservation.
  • Responsible for the direction, coordination, and evaluation of a shift, including interviewing, hiring recommendations, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, and disciplining team members.
  • Ensure that all applicable rules and regulations of the organization and reservation are firmly and fairly enforced.
  • Review incident reports to ensure proper preparation and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Prepare staff reports for management, make recommendations for improvements, resolve problems, and document incidents.
  • Investigate complaints, recommend discipline, and administer approved discipline in accordance with business and departmental policy.
  • Resolve team member problems and complaints.
  • Respond to and manage critical incidents on the Reservation.
  • Develop positive relationships with other leaders throughout the enterprise.
  • Coordinate Security operations and planning for all special events where Security has been requested.
  • Perform research and planning to assist in major projects or events.
  • Attend intradepartmental meetings to coordinate projects and events with other departments.
  • Perform the duties of a Security Officer, Corporal, or Sergeant, as needed.
  • Respond to emergency alarms (fire, unauthorized persons, critical incidents), notify the Communication Center and proper authorities, secure and control tribal assets, and permit authorized persons entry.
  • Perform First Aid, CPR, and AED as needed, if trained.
  • Ensure that a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment is maintained.
  • Adhere to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
