About The Position

The Security Lead position is responsible for the oversight of maintaining a safe and secure Children's campus. The Security Lead will oversee security staff (officers and dispatchers), including assigning work, coaching, and recommending discipline. The Security Lead's core role is to promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital employees.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal, writing and computer skills required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license (must meet minimum criteria of Children's Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy).
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
  • Skill in operating portable radio devices.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred.
  • Prior experience in a security or public safety field preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy preferred.
  • Emergency Operations Center experience preferred.
  • Healthcare knowledge/experience preferred.
  • POST skills completed, International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (Basic), First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or OSHA first responder certifications preferred.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), a plus.
  • Knowledge of leadership practices and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at various social levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Strong customer service and results orientation.
  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures preferred.
  • Must be able to use or learn computer programs for dispatching officers, report writing, information database look ups, email, access control and video monitoring systems.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee security staff (officers and dispatchers), including assigning work, coaching, and recommending discipline.
  • Promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital employees.
  • Prepare verbal and written reports.
  • Complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire.
  • Be fit tested and able to pass respirator physical for respiratory protection (N-95 respirator, full face respirator and PAPR).
  • Successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS).
  • Lead staff, including assigning work and recommending discipline.
  • Provide positive direction and motivate performance.
  • Operate, or learn to use, two way radios, telephone, copier, fax and pager notification systems.
  • Work independently and as a team.
  • Communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
  • Retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
  • Comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
  • Effectively contact and interact with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required.
  • Restrain or subdue an individual.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
