About The Position

The Security Guard position involves guarding industrial or commercial property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Responsibilities include periodic patrols of buildings and grounds, ensuring the security of doors, windows, and gates, and adhering to hazardous waste handling guidelines. The guard will warn violators of rule infractions, apprehend or expel miscreants, and inspect equipment for tampering. They are also responsible for reporting irregularities such as fire hazards or unlocked security doors, observing departing personnel to prevent theft, and responding to emergencies by sounding alarms or contacting police/fire departments. The role includes permitting authorized persons to enter property, potentially registering at watch stations, recording data on property damage or unusual occurrences, and maintaining logs. Additional duties may involve janitorial tasks, setting thermostatic controls, assisting with after-hour equipment pickup and delivery, and regulating vehicle and pedestrian traffic at plant entrances. The position requires strict observance and compliance with all safety and project rules.

Requirements

  • May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Works under immediate supervision.
  • Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
  • Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
  • Apply basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned work.
  • Responds to standard request from internal and external customers.
  • Solve routine problems by following defined procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of work site.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels miscreants.
  • Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
  • Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Permits authorized persons to enter property.
  • May register at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
  • May record data, such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
  • Completes records and maintains logs.
  • May perform janitorial duties and set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings or cold storage rooms.
  • May be contacted for after-hour equipment pickup and delivery.
  • May regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic at plant entrance to maintain orderly.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Performs other duties as required.
