About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and security of McLennan Community College’s students, faculty, and staff. This role also involves upholding the laws of the State of Texas, as well as enforcing the policies and guidelines established by the College. This position receives general direction from the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety and exercises no supervision. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position, and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • More than one year of relevant work experience
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain Level 2 and Level 3 security training, certifications within 6 months of start date
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to maintain insurability under college automobile policy
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, local ordinances, and college policies relevant to campus safety and security
  • Knowledge of standard security operations, protocols, and procedures used to maintain a safe environment
  • Knowledge of the principles and best practices involved in delivering effective customer service and personal assistance
  • Knowledge of the functions and operations of telecommunications systems, including transmission, broadcasting, switching, and control mechanisms
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow complex instructions accurately
  • Active listening and responding appropriately to the needs and concerns of others
  • Ability to conduct surveillance and observe situations with attention to detail
  • Ability to apply safety management practices to promote a secure environment
  • Ability to prepare accurate and detailed reports related to incidents and daily activities
  • Ability to balance various responsibilities and adjust to shifting priorities as needed

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of McLennan Community College’s students, faculty, and staff.

  • Enforce the policies and guidelines established by the College.
  • Complete and file daily reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Operate police radios, cell phones, and other communication equipment effectively.
  • Identify issues, analyze situations, and implement effective solutions.
  • Resolve conflicts and facilitate consensus through constructive discussion and negotiation.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, and the public.
  • Operate patrol vehicles safely and perform routine daily maintenance checks.
  • Meet the physical and mental demands required to perform the duties of a security officer.
  • Provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.
