About The Position

The role of the Security Guard is to ensure the safety and security of all Marshall Farms’ personnel and assets. This is achieved by ensuring access control at all physical sites, monitoring detection and surveillance systems, patrolling, detecting and reporting issues of concern and responding to related activity or conditions. Marshall Farms Security Guards will conduct all essential tasks in a safe and professional manner while being cognizant of their own personal safety at all times. This position is a grade O12 with a pay range of $17.92 - $26.10/Hour.

Requirements

  • This position requires that you have a High School Diploma or GED
  • You must be able to obtain a NYS Security Guards License
  • You must have a valid Driver License

Responsibilities

  • Follow all lawful orders and direction from Security Guard Supervisor and Team Leaders, ranking security guards and the Security Director.
  • Responsible for ensuring all employees’ adherence to company policies and rules as well as local, State and Federal Laws. This includes counseling employees for minor infractions (when appropriate) yet reporting ALL infractions to Security Guard Supervisor, Team Leaders and Security Director.
  • Proactively identify safety and security hazards/concerns and ensure they are communicated to all team members, Security Guard Supervisor, Team Leaders and management. Further, issues will be documented, and action made (if possible) to mitigate or eliminate a conditions potential impact.
  • In regard to incidents with non-compliant individuals, must clearly understand and apply appropriate response techniques and warnings (when possible) prior to the use of physical force (consistent with NY Penal Law Article 35) during any situation that may lead to an arrest.
  • Conduct patrols of Marshall Facilities as directed (either with or without a K9 partner) utilizing detection equipment (i.e., night vision goggles and thermal cameras) to deter or detect intruders. While on patrol, security guards may be dispatched to respond to detection system alarms or to investigate other concerns or situations at Marshall facilities.
  • Make lawful arrest and use (lawful) force when necessary to protect employees and assets. Marshall Farms Security Guard must be able to make sound decisions related to the lawful use of force and making arrest. These two actions must only be performed when absolutely necessary and based on legally grounded guidelines which emphasize the need to protect employees and assets with reasonable force yet without risking the guard’s personal safety.
  • Perform access control; electronic systems monitoring for all sites and manage visitor/vendor reception at the Security Checkpoint located at the entrance to Marshall Farms. Access control requires both the visual identification of individuals and verification of badge access privileges or gaining manager approval prior to giving site access. Electronic system monitoring may require dispatching security personnel to investigate alarm conditions and calling in support staff and/or security management. Visitor reception duties will require greeting, providing/explaining Visitor Requirements, reviewing identification, signing in and electronically logging visitors and contacting the appropriate Marshall escort. In the event of an emergency condition, checkpoint personnel will be responsible for facilitating the “General Response to Emergencies” plan. In addition, while in the Checkpoint, security guards will attentively monitor security cameras and the surrounding area.
  • Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files, processing paperwork, writing reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Knowledgeable and competent in the performance of all other tasks as defined in the “Security Operations Plan”, “Security General Orders” and all other Security Department procedures.
  • Exemplify the respected image of the company so all Security personnel must act accordingly throughout their careers with Marshall. High moral conduct, a sound personal character, and freedom from the involvement in illicit or unethical activity are expected. If it is determined that an employee’s on the job or off the job behavior affects them from maintaining this character requirement, their employment may be terminated.
  • Conduct other day-to-day tasks as requested by supervisors and management to support the interests and operations of the company. This includes accepting progressive roles in Security team leadership and as a K9 Handler when requested.
  • The Security Guard will maintain a working-level proficiency in all NY DCJS Security Guard topic areas to include: 1. Role of a Security Guard 2. Legal Powers & Limitations 3. Emergency Situations 4. Communications and Public Relations 5. Access Control 6. Report Writing 7. Ethics and Conduct 8. Elective Topics (As emphasized during training)
  • Individual will stay up-to-date with methods and concepts of security by participating in regular continuing education opportunities.
  • Security must have effective organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to use computers to perform essential job requirements.
  • Individuals will be proficient in proper patrol and apprehension techniques with or without a K9 partner.
