About The Position

Since 2009, Gowest Gold has expanded its land holdings to over 120 square kilometres in the prolific Timmins gold camp. Our properties are strategically positions along key geological structures, including the underexplored Pipestone Fault, associated with the gold-rich Porcupine-Destor Fault system, which has produced over 145 million ounces of gold across the Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Today, with full ownership of both the Bradshaw Mine and the Redstone Mill, Gowest is uniquely positioned as a fully integrated and growing gold company, advancing from resource production while unlocking long-term potential across our land package. Reporting to the Emergency Response Coordinator / Security Supervisor (or their delegate), the Fixed-Term Casual Security Guard is responsible for the security and protection of personnel and company assets at Gowest Gold. This position is intended to provide temporary coverage for Security Guards who are absent due to vacation, personal leave, illness, training, or other operational requirements. Hours of work will be scheduled based on operational needs and are not guaranteed. As this position provides coverage for Security Guards who are absent from work, the incumbent must maintain full unrestricted availability and be capable of working day shifts, night shifts, weekends, statutory holidays, and short-notice assignments as required.

Requirements

  • Post secondary education in law and security, with a minimum 1-year experience in security or law enforcement, or a military background. Alternatively, Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma with the desire to complete a correspondence course in Law and Security may be considered.
  • Mandatory Private Security and Investigative Services Act (PSISA) training and testing will be required to become licensed as a Security Guard.
  • Current Advanced First Aid, AED, and CPR certificate.
  • Comfortable working with various modes of communication (radio transmission, video monitors, security alarms).
  • Aptitude and ability to learn and participate in various training programs (e.g. WHMIS, Explosive Recognition, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Spill Response, etc.).
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to deal effectively with others.
  • Competent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to effectively follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to perform a variety of physical tasks (distance walking, climbing stairs, and light lifting).
  • Valid Class G driver’s license
  • Maintains confidentiality in all company dealings

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and enforce security protocol of all personnel; conduct searches of persons, vehicles and materials entering and leaving the property, or when deemed necessary.
  • Provide inductions, instruction and monitoring of all personnel entering and working on site.
  • Investigate incidents and concerns immediately according to security protocol.
  • Respond and appropriately report all alarms and emergencies.
  • Direct workforce during emergencies.
  • Approach and correct those not complying with procedures.
  • Document information with detail and accuracy following all incidents on appropriate forms or logbooks.
  • Produce various security reports, as requested.
  • Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
