About The Position

This position is responsible for a variety of security and facility maintenance tasks. The Security Guard I ensures the safety and security of the premises, monitors access, responds to incidents, and performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties. This role requires adherence to established procedures and effective communication with management and employees.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees and Supervisors.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to understand production numbers, goals, and quotas.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up trash bags from the front office by 9 PM.
  • Clean cigarette butt barrels, change trash bags at scales, walkway, and employee parking lot on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
  • Check the inventory of PPE at the beginning of the shift to ensure an adequate supply for on-coming shifts.
  • Respond to all codes in a timely manner and fill out an incident report if needed.
  • Deliver messages to supervisors.
  • Issue PPE to employees at shift changes.
  • Provide fire watch after welding on mill holidays as needed.
  • Respond to calls from maintenance when the lockout of sprinkler system shut-off valves are being removed.
  • Monitor sprinkler system drain lines in winter to prevent freezing.
  • Report neighbor’s complaints of noise or smoke to management.
  • Follow established procedures for contacting chip hauling company when the red light comes on at the chip bin.
  • Admit chip trucks to mill and weigh out chip trucks.
  • Issue fuel at fuel area and record in the log when called.
  • Ensure all visitors and contractors have the appropriate insurance, PPE, and passes prior to admitting them to the mill.
  • Check materials released at the security gate when a contractor or employee fills out a materials release before they go out the gate.
  • Issue supplies to millwrights from the supply room upon request.
  • Check out maintenance forklift and Manlift upon request and lock up when the requester is done with it.
  • Check out Confined Space equipment and gas-testing meter to Supervisors, turn on and calibrate meter at the guard shack; ensure equipment is returned to the guard shack upon completion of entry; document in security log.
  • Check the security truck (fluid level, leaks, tires, and cleanliness) at the beginning of the shift and record the results on the Truck Checklist.
  • Brief the oncoming Security Guard.
  • Complete all required paperwork before the end of the shift.
  • Immediately notify HR Manager, Safety Coordinator, and Plant Manager of all recordable injuries.
  • Administer first aid; transport employees to doctor/hospital/home in security truck when necessary.
  • Complete an incident report for all injuries, first aid cases, and near misses; make copies and put in the Department Head, Plant Manager, HR Manager, and Safety Coordinator’s mailboxes in the front office.
  • Log all activities and calls on the security log.
  • Inspect areas around completed hot work where permits are issued and pick-up permits on the last walkthrough of the shift.
  • Pick up trash/debris around the fence line of the plant (including the front office area and outside the gate at the scales).
  • Monitor storm water holding pond during rain events to make sure no discharge occurs.
  • Fill in for other Security Guards as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Disinfect the first aid table with a 10% bleach solution every Wednesday.
  • Empty trash cans in the break room on weekends.
  • Vacuum the interior of the Security truck on Saturday.
  • Monitor eye-wash stations to ensure they are clean and in good working order each Monday.
  • Maintain maintenance records for the pick-up truck and schedule routine maintenance as needed.
  • Assist with annual hearing tests for employees (normally in July).
