The Security Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of security systems to ensure the safety and security of people, property, and facilities. This role involves troubleshooting technical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring systems operate in compliance with organizational standards, safety regulations, and applicable laws.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–3 years of experience installing or maintaining security or low-voltage systems
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, PoE, switches)
  • Ability to read technical diagrams and schematics
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between work sites

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training or certification in security systems, electronics, or related field preferred
  • Experience with correctional, government, or high-security environments
  • Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Lenel, Genetec, Bosch, Honeywell, Avigilon)
  • Knowledge of electronic locking systems and life-safety interfaces
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems (CMMS)
  • OSHA or other safety training

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and test security systems, including: Video surveillance (CCTV / IP cameras), Access control systems, Intrusion detection and alarm systems, Intercoms and related low-voltage equipment.
  • Read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and system documentation.
  • Ensure new installations meet operational requirements and security standards.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on security systems.
  • Diagnose system malfunctions and perform timely repairs.
  • Document issues, corrective actions, and system changes.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and tools.
  • Respond to service requests and security system outages.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide basic system operation training to staff or end users.
  • Support upgrades and system modernization projects.
  • Ensure systems comply with applicable codes, policies, and regulations.
  • Follow safety protocols when working with electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service records and work orders.
