Security Engineer, OT

Fluidstack•Austin, TX
•$275,000 - $344,000

About The Position

Fluidstack is hiring a Security Engineer focused on operational technology (OT) security. The role will help secure frontier AI compute infrastructure, building and operating security protections for industrial systems across a growing, global fleet. The engineer will work across physical and logical security concerns, from bare metal systems to enterprise-level security planning. The position spans OT threat modeling, architecture and segmentation, deployment security, consultation with engineering and site teams, detection and incident response, and hardware supply-chain security. It involves working closely with controls, power, commissioning, detection and response, and site teams as new capacity comes online.

Requirements

  • Production security experience with substations, SCADA, or controls systems, including Ignition or comparable platforms, PLCs, relays, and industrial protocols.
  • Experience threat modeling OT environments and translating findings into workable segmentation and controls.
  • Knowledge of the Purdue Model and the ability to adapt it for virtualized PLCs and software-defined OT environments.
  • Hands-on experience with OT security tools such as Claroty, Nozomi, Dragos, or similar, including understanding their visibility and limitations.
  • Knowledge of BMS, EPMS, and cooling systems sufficient to work effectively with the engineers who operate them.
  • Experience advancing security in engineering teams through consultation and design review rather than direct authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Depth in NERC CIP or IEC 62443.
  • Experience securing virtualized or containerized industrial control systems.
  • Commissioning-phase security work at construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Threat model OT systems and environments across the fleet, including SCADA platforms, BMS and EPMS, cooling and power systems, and sensor networks.
  • Design OT security architecture and segmentation, including network zones, remote-access paths, and IT/OT boundaries.
  • Work with controls engineering to secure operational deployments, including PLC code pipelines, virtualized controllers, and SCADA systems.
  • Advise power, controls, commissioning, and site teams as new capacity comes online, translating security reviews into deployable guidance.
  • Work with detection and response teams to assess and tune OT detection coverage, and respond to incidents affecting OT infrastructure.
  • Lead engagements with hardware OEMs on product security requirements, including firmware security, tamper evidence, and counterfeit detection.
