About The Position

SpaceX is seeking a Security Engineer to join Information Security and help protect systems and processes across the enterprise. The role focuses on designing, building, operating, and securing on-premises Kubernetes platforms that run security services. It includes operating the underlying compute, storage, and networking; automating platform operations; maintaining reliability and observability; responding to incidents; and working with security, IT, software, and other teams to identify and reduce risk. The position is onsite, and the employee must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or another STEM discipline, or at least 2 years of professional experience operating production infrastructure and a high school diploma or equivalency certificate in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience operating on-premises Kubernetes in a production environment.
  • Experience with Linux system administration and Python, Go, or another language used to automate infrastructure.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
  • Must work onsite; hybrid or remote work will not be considered.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. Government export authorization requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Production Kubernetes operations, including control plane, workloads, networking, storage, RBAC, and upgrades.
  • On-premises compute, storage, and networking for container platforms.
  • Cluster and node hardening, admission control, and secure workload configuration.
  • Infrastructure as code and configuration management.
  • Linux troubleshooting.
  • Observability using metrics, logs, and alerting.
  • CI/CD or GitOps-style delivery onto Kubernetes.
  • Backup, restore, and recovery for on-premises platforms.
  • TCP/IP knowledge sufficient to build and debug cluster networking.
  • Root-cause debugging under time pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate on-premises Kubernetes clusters that run security services.
  • Automate cluster build-out, configuration, upgrades, and day-to-day operations.
  • Run the compute, storage, and networking that the clusters depend on.
  • Maintain platform service reliability, including scheduling, ingress, load balancing, and storage.
  • Harden clusters and workloads, including RBAC, policy, secrets, and secure configuration.
  • Respond to production incidents and drive them to resolution.
  • Instrument clusters and workloads so failures are visible before they become outages.
  • Document and maintain operated systems, and advise other teams on them.
  • Partner with security and IT to identify threats and gaps, then deliver platform and deployment changes that reduce risk.
  • Deliver scalable, repeatable, maintainable, and secure solutions.
  • Coordinate with information security, IT, software, and other partners.
