About The Position

Serves dual role as first responder/EMT and security officer, promoting the health, welfare and safety of residents and associates on the Village campus. Responsible for responding to on-campus emergencies, medical and non-medical calls for assistance, and reinforcing an overall sense of safety on campus. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training hours as required by policy.

Requirements

  • Missouri State EMT-B Certification required.
  • Missouri Class E driver’s license or equivalent required.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Basic level keyboarding skills required.
  • Must maintain CEU hours required by current EMT and CPR certifications.
  • Experience with investigations of incidents and conflicts.
  • Experience using an oxygen tank, airways, suction equipment, respirator and heart monitor.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergency medical calls on campus.
  • Determines nature and extent of illness or injury.
  • May administer basic life support at site of emergency such as administration of artificial resuscitation, administration of oxygen, treatment of minor wounds or abrasions, application of splints, etc., following medical protocols.
  • Determines need additional assistance, such as EMS, fire, and police.
  • Removes or assists in removal of victims from scene of accident or catastrophe.
  • Respond to non-medical emergencies such as smoke, fire, C02 alarms, water main breaks, interior flooding, etc. Assess, investigate, resolve as appropriate. Request additional resources if/as needed. Stay on scene until issue is resolved or taken over by another department or outside agency (e.g. JKV operations team, LS Fire, LS Water Dept., etc.). Remove or assist in removal/evacuation of residents. Secure alternative housing for residents if/as necessary.
  • Respond to non-medical emergencies such as missing residents, suspicious persons, vandalism, vehicular accidents, resident conflicts, etc. Assess, investigate, resolve as appropriate. Request additional resources if/as needed. Stay on scene until issue is resolved or taken over by outside agency (e.g. LS Police or Fire). Remove or assist in removal/evacuation of victims from scene of accident or catastrophe.
  • Respond to non-emergency medical calls on campus, including requests from residents who aren’t feeling well, would like to be assessed, need a blood pressure check, etc. Make referrals to JKV services. Notify the area manager as appropriate.
  • Conduct wellness checks on residents as requested by staff, family and other residents.
  • Accompany confused residents back to their home.
  • Respond to non-emergency, non-medical requests for assistance such as lockouts, missing items (personal items, pets), jump start cars (residents/associates), provide lift assists (VCC,VAL, Village Helpers), scam concerns, etc.
  • Conduct driving patrols of the campus, watching for any unusual or suspicious conditions, investigating if/as necessary.
  • Conducts walking patrols of Village buildings with emphasis towards crime prevention and regard for personal safety.
  • Respond to after-hours maintenance and housekeeping calls from residents as well as associates. Assess cause, severity, and solution. If unable to resolve independently, submit work order for more “routine” issues and consult maintenance lead on call and/or duty office for next steps on more urgent or complex situations.
  • Respond to after-hours request for IT support. Assist residents in resolving phone, TV and internet issues. If unable to resolve independently, depending on severity, submit work order or notify IT on call associate.
  • Fill in on ambulance and/or mental health van when needed.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with dispatch to confirm requests are being responded to and in a timely manner per established policies and procedures.
  • Provide traffic and parking control as needed (e.g. special events, road closures, parking lot repaving, etc.)
  • Ensure proper documentation for all functions including routine tracking, incident reporting (e.g. RiskWatch and CareWatch), and medical calls including interviews with victims and witnesses if/as applicable.
  • Conduct vacation checks per resident requests.
  • Lock and unlock 100+ doors every morning and evening per established timeframes.
  • Collect daily bank deposits bags from finance and other requesting departments and delivers to area banks, collecting bank bags from night deposits and returning them to the appropriate department.
  • Collect daily bank deposit bags from restaurant safes and deliver night deposits at area banks. (Night Shift)
  • Conduct fire drills in all five licensed facilities each month.
  • Adhere to all department policies, safety regulations, medical protocols and licensing requirements.
  • Enforce Village policies with residents, often in conjunction with the area manager.
  • Responsible for pre-shift vehicle check and proper handling and care of assigned vehicle and communication equipment.
  • Replenishes first-aid equipment and supplies.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
