About The Position

Implements overall security strategy, policies, and standards to ensure the physical safety of all horsemen, team members, and visitors to the organization’s facilities and the security of property and assets. This role involves interacting and coordinating with state regulators (TXRC and TCPS), the Department of Public Safety, and other law enforcement agencies. The Security Director also interacts with city government on safety and security issues, directs and oversees the daily operations of the Security and Parking Departments, and oversees the actions of other departments as they relate to safety and security. The position requires interaction with executives and department heads to facilitate security actions, directing subordinates, and reporting to superiors. Handling confidential information, managing cash responsibly with detailed record-keeping, and negotiating contracts and services are also key aspects. The role involves interacting with the business community, preparing budgets and projections, understanding staffing levels and regulatory issues for employees, and providing support for employees and supervisors. Ensuring consistent and fair treatment of employees, addressing issues one-on-one, and carrying out management responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws (including interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution) are essential. The Security Director acts as a role model, leading by example, encouraging teamwork, remaining calm under pressure, and resolving conflicts with tact and diplomacy. They must use caution and discretion in crisis situations, avoid physical confrontation, seek assistance when needed, and ensure staff are trained and follow post orders and SOPs. Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the reporting senior.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement, Business Management, or 8 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
  • Experience in law enforcement, military security or other protective service work required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Extensive knowledge of fire prevention, safety, and security operations.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with an impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to set overall strategy and drive process improvement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and build a consensus in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of Lone Star Park, its facilities, and the Security operation.
  • Ability to apply the principles of supervision to direct the work activities of subordinates.
  • A minimum of one year supervisory experience preferred.

  • Five years of safety/security experience required, including five years supervisory experience in operations or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, MAC or equivalent graduate degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in law enforcement, military security or other protective service work preferred.
  • Bilingual skills helpful.
  • May be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Advanced training or certification in safety and security preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts and coordinates activities and actions with the state regulators from TXRC and TCPS as well as the Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies.

  • Provides consistent and fair treatment of employees and the disciplinary actions taken.
  • Deals with employees on a one-on-one basis when issues arise in daily operations.
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance appraisal; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
