The Security Coordinator may function as an on-duty security officer, responding to all security and emergency calls during their shift. This role assists in establishing security policies and procedures, and is responsible for orienting and training security staff at respective sites, maintaining training records, and ensuring staff compliance. The coordinator also assists in maintaining the security schedule and ensuring timely reporting for duty. Duties may include site-specific requirements such as Lost & Found, equipment/vehicle maintenance tracking, and maintenance of security systems. The role acts as a liaison to the Security Supervisor/Manager for security officer needs and helps establish operational procedures for security activities like traffic control and property security. They supervise the daily function of security, assure daily completion and review of security logs/reports, and assist with administrative duties such as payroll and data collection. The coordinator investigates security incidents, assists with performance reviews, and helps establish and meet performance improvement goals for the security department. They conduct security training, maintain knowledge of access control and surveillance systems, and ensure the accuracy and efficiency of security officers. A key aspect of the role is to greet patients, visitors, and Mercyhealth partners professionally and courteously, check grounds for cleanliness and safety, and notify maintenance of needed repairs. They also assist with fire drills and other drills, monitor the environment using electronic security equipment, and ensure partners and contractors display required identification. Additional duties may include coordinating and conducting applicant interviews, working in the timekeeping system, and assisting with meeting arrangements, agendas, and minutes.
