About The Position

SkyePoint Decisions is seeking a Security Control Assessor to support the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid Cybersecurity and Privacy Support Services program in Washington, DC. The position is remote and contingent upon customer approval.

The role supports security authorization and ongoing security authorization activities under the Risk Management Framework. It involves reviewing and maintaining security documentation and system artifacts, helping prepare Authority to Operate packages, supporting continuous monitoring, tracking authorization renewals, maintaining assessment records in cybersecurity governance tools, and coordinating responses to audits, compliance requests, and data calls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of related experience.
• Industry professional certification.
• Experience supporting the NIST Risk Management Framework and system authorization/ATO processes.
• Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 security controls and federal cybersecurity requirements.
• Experience reviewing or developing security documentation such as SSPs, PIAs, Risk Assessments, POA&Ms, and ATO packages.
• Experience supporting continuous monitoring or ongoing authorization activities.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity GRC tools such as CSAM or similar platforms.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain a High Risk Public Trust Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support Security Authorization and Ongoing Security Authorization activities in accordance with the Risk Management Framework.
• Review security documentation and system artifacts for accuracy and completeness in support of Authority to Operate packages.
• Assist with developing, reviewing, and maintaining ATO packages before submission for approval.
• Review and provide input on System Security Plans, Privacy Impact Assessments, Risk Assessments, contingency plans, and Plans of Action and Milestones.
• Support continuous monitoring and ongoing authorization, including review of security controls and assessment documentation.
• Track ATO and security authorization renewal dates and coordinate timely renewals with System Owners, ISSOs, and other stakeholders.
• Review closed POA&Ms for completeness and compliance.
• Maintain assessment and audit documentation in Cyber Security Assessment and Management or other designated GRC tools.
• Assist with audit, compliance, and data-call responses by coordinating with stakeholders.
• Support development and maintenance of security authorization processes, procedures, and documentation.
