About The Position

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Senior Security Cloud Architect to design and lead secure cloud architectures supporting high-impact national security missions in Chantilly, VA. This role is for an architect who enjoys solving complex challenges, driving modernization, and building cloud environments where security and scale matter. You will turn mission needs into secure, scalable cloud and hybrid solutions, define architectural standards, and guide engineering teams to deliver resilient platforms aligned with Zero Trust and enterprise security best practices. This is a pipeline requisition designed to collect resumes for potential upcoming work at AMERICAN SYSTEMS and does not represent a current opening. Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance and current polygraph (required for consideration)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related STEM field
  • 10+ years of enterprise IT experience, including 5+ years in cloud architecture roles
  • DoD 8570/8140 IAM Level III certification (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, CISM)
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise or multi-system cloud architecture initiatives
  • Experience developing and maintaining architecture documentation in regulated or classified environments
  • Strong understanding of cloud governance, security architecture, and compliance frameworks
  • Experience supporting hybrid and/or multi-cloud environments

Responsibilities

  • Design and govern secure enterprise cloud architectures aligned with mission objectives.
  • Define and enforce Zero Trust cloud architectures aligned with NIST SP 800-207.
  • Serve as the Government-facing authority for cloud security architecture decisions.
  • Define cloud governance frameworks, standards, and architectural guardrails.
  • Integrate ACE cloud solutions with NRO enterprise IT and security services.
  • Develop and maintain cloud reference architectures and design artifacts.
  • Advise engineering teams on security, performance, cost, and resiliency tradeoffs.
  • Provide architectural guidance and evidence to support audits and assessments.
