As a member of the UH Information Security team, this role oversees, manages, and maintains the UH information security data protection and compliance programs. The position serves as a security Technical Analyst, managing the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system to collect, correlate, and analyze security logs and alerts. It involves monitoring various security hardware, tools, systems/networks, and applications, and leading security incident responses, investigations, and emergency situations. The role also handles legal requests, provides remediation support, and performs analyses of reported inappropriate technology use or information compromises. Continuous monitoring of security threats, trends, and developments is crucial, along with identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities and developing corrective action plans. Collaboration with internal and external entities is expected to address security vulnerabilities and events. The position provides technical advice and problem-solving assistance regarding the information security program, compliance, policies, and procedures. It also involves capacity planning, evaluation, and implementation of new information security products and technologies, as well as developing and maintaining a security awareness training program for UH employees. Active promotion and communication of security awareness and policy changes to faculty, staff, and students are key responsibilities. The role assists the UH Information Security team in ensuring compliance with external regulations, laws, and standards such as DOD Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, GDPR, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, FERPA, NIST 800-171, HRS 487N, HRS 92F, and UH policies/procedures. Information security risk assessments are performed, with regular reports and recommendations provided to University officials and leadership. The position implements and maintains processes for reporting violations to appropriate authorities and reviews the work of other security team members, providing guidance. It ensures the consistent adoption, implementation, and enforcement of recommendations from University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services, and stays updated on these recommendations. Continuous monitoring and leading initiatives to enhance system reliability, security, and operational efficiency are expected. The role involves supervising and mentoring IT staff to ensure administrative directives and industry best practices are understood and followed. Other duties as assigned.
