Position Overview: As a Security Access Control Specialist, you will manage and oversee all aspects of building access to ensure that personnel, contractors, and visitors are properly authenticated. You will maintain accurate access records, administer badges and credentials, and monitor system alerts for anomalies or unauthorized activity. You support compliance by validating access requests against approved authorization lists and clearance systems. Through consistent oversight and documentation, you help maintain a secure and well‑regulated facility environment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Must demonstrate strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as one of the primary points of contact for building access, providing professional support to employees, contractors, and visitors while ensuring all access policies are consistently followed.
  • Assist the contractor security officers with verifying the identity, access credentials, and authorization levels of all individuals requesting entry, including visitors, vendors, and temporary personnel.
  • Maintain and update electronic access control systems and databases, including visitor registration, badge issuance, access logs, and user profiles.
  • Issue, track, and recover temporary badges, and other access credentials in accordance with established access governance procedures.
  • Review and validate access requests against approved access lists, clearance databases, and authorization records (including systems such as DISS, NBIS, or CPCI when applicable).
  • Monitor access control dashboards, system alerts, and badge activity reports to identify irregularities, unauthorized attempts, or system anomalies.
  • Support periodic audits of access permissions, ensuring that employee, contractor, and vendor privileges reflect current job roles and security requirements.
  • Process access changes by granting, modifying, or revoking permissions based on verified approvals from management or security leadership.
  • Assist the Facility Security Officer (FSO) with conducting initial clearance briefs/debriefs.
  • Conduct Facility Security Orientation Training.
  • Process foreign travel requests for cleared employees in DISS and provide travel briefs.
  • Maintain personnel files in SIMS.
