About The Position

This position oversees a survey crew and an administrative support unit involved in specialized clerical work. The role requires a lead person to coordinate work assignments, review the work of the survey crew and administrative support employees, and train them in crew and office requirements. The individual will serve as a lead worker or acknowledged expert, resolving difficult problems. Responsibilities include utilizing modern survey equipment and software for data collection, performing complex field survey work, calculating measurements, ensuring safe work procedures, maintaining supplies and equipment, and handling difficult public contact work. For the administrative side, the role involves scheduling assignments, training staff, performing complex clerical work, composing correspondence, gathering information for reports, updating computer records, operating specialized departmental software (like Laserfiche, File Tracker), and potentially conducting microfilming activities. Additional duties may include requisitioning supplies, assembling storage components, preserving archival documents, shipping/retrieving records, and performing other related work as delegated by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in sub-professional engineering and field survey work.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, and equipment used in field surveying work
  • Thorough knowledge of the computations used in field surveying and related work
  • Very skilled in the operation and care of surveying instruments
  • Very skilled in performing trigonometry computations of angles, areas, distances and traverses
  • Thorough ability working with total station, GPS receiver, data collectors and levels
  • Ability to follow and give instruction based upon established procedures given by written and oral direction
  • Assist in the training and oversee field personnel; thorough ability to read/understand construction plans
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete engineering/survey records and notes
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Four years of progressively responsible administrative support/office experience in related area
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate administrative support methods, office practices, modern office equipment and filing systems
  • Working knowledge of department function: working knowledge of job related software applications
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and specialized software; working knowledge of microfilm and duplication systems
  • Considerable skill in performing office operations
  • Considerable ability to operate a variety of office equipment
  • Considerable ability to form effective working relationships with the public under difficult circumstances
  • Considerable ability to oversee the work of others
  • Ability to keep complex records and prepare detailed reports
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License issued by the state in which employee resides.
  • Candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position.

  • Occasionally assemble commercial storage shelving components, storage containers, and accessories used in storage facilities and/or stock rooms.
  • May preserve and restore fragile archival documents of significance.
  • May ship records for storage and retrieve records from various remote locations.
  • Perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisor.
