About The Position

The Section Engineer provides technical leadership in the planning, design, and execution of projects involving Exelon's utility infrastructure including electric or gas distribution, transmission, substations, and related systems. This role involves mentoring junior engineers and includes strategic planning, leading complex engineering studies, and ensuring engineering excellence across projects and operations within the section. Champions cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement across engineering operations. Work can include directing engineering studies and contributes to performance evaluations across the section / segment of responsibility. Setting priorities for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Approving budgets, work packages, and technical specifications. Leading cross-functional coordination and external partnerships. Supervising field activities and ensuring resolution of complex issues. May be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline with at least 7 years of professional engineering experience.
  • Completed Assignments and Projects showing evidence of: Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of services.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree (1) or Graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or Project Management Certification
  • Possess Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification and/or Professional Engineer license (2) (3)
  • 1-3 years of professional supervisory experience and/or demonstrated ability to lead the work activity of others.
  • Strong written and oral communication/presentation skills, report generation & technical writing skills
  • Industry expert who participates or leads industry committees or working groups or has published technical documents.
  • Advanced experience in utility infrastructure, such as system analysis, planning, design coordination, standards development, or project execution.
  • A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as CYMDIST, PSS\E, Python, PLS-CAD, Pole Foreman, Power BI, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Leads highly technical consultation and training through OJT/OJE (may include some classroom instruction as well) on highly complex and unique technical areas requiring the application of advanced engineering principles and may require advanced knowledge of complex analog and digital field test equipment.
  • Leads the work activities of project teams and others on the implementation of large specialized technical projects and/or programs in order to develop studies, proposals, commissioning plans to support safely energizing and placing major utility and customer systems and equipment on system.
  • Performs assignments while acting independently, and may lead multi-discipline teams, may include providing direct oversight of contractors.
  • Participates in department/project management planning, and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to other engineers.
  • May participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in area of company interest.
  • Serves as an expert in specialized area.
  • Acts as an expert witness and provide expert opinions for internal committees or as required.
  • Create/develop/advise on scope of work, schedule of equipment, and business justification for capital projects for major substation equipment, specifically gas-insulated substations, metal-clad switchgear, and circuit breakers.
  • Lead acceptance testing, perform technical document reviews, and provide testing and commissioning support as needed for major substation equipment.
  • Support operations and maintenance personnel through emergent repairs and system emergencies.
  • Ensure adequate and accurate inventory of spare material for planned projects and anticipated failures.
  • Create/develop/modify process and procedure documents to facilitate adequate knowledge transfer.
  • Coach and develop engineers on similar scope as listed above.
  • Develop and share best practices across our Exelon OpCos and within the power utility industry.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $112,000.00/Yr. – $154,000.00/Yr.
