About The Position

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Children’s Minnesota is seeking a pathology physician to serve as Section Director of Transfusion Medicine. This role involves providing strategic and clinical oversight of the Transfusion Medicine Service, which performs approximately 9,000 transfusions per year and holds accreditations from CAP, AABB, and the FDA. The position will support the growth and expansion of the program, including pursuing FACT accreditation for expanded care in cellular and gene therapy services and autologous bone marrow transplantation. The role is part of a collegial, multispecialty group of eight pathologists within a collaborative department. Call responsibilities are shared on an approximate 1:4 rotation with a moonlighting team.

Requirements

  • BC/BE in Clinical Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • BC/BE in Transfusion Medicine
  • Clinical competency and expertise in caring for hospitalized children
  • Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics
  • Knowledge of common medication, side effects and contraindications
  • In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and medicine best practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
