About The Position

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor, in the Academic Clinician, Clinician Educator, or tenure track, to serve as Section Chief for the Behavioral Health Integrated Program (BHIP) of the Division of Integrated Psychiatry, Psychology and Behavioral Health. In partnership with the other Section Chiefs in the Division, the BHIP Section Chief will lead one of the largest and most successful hospital-based child and adolescent psychiatry programs in the nation. Applicants must have outstanding qualifications in clinical care, education, and research. Applicants must have an M.D or equivalent degree and be board-certified in Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, with at least 8 years of experience in healthcare systems administration, hospital operations & practice management in a large, academic medical center and/or similarly complex environment, including leadership experience. Strong preference for active involvement in national organizations and relevant committees. The section of BHIP includes: A growing interdisciplinary consultation-liaison service at the CHOP Philadelphia and King of Prussia Hospital Campuses Emergency Psychiatry Services at the CHOP Philadelphia and King of Prussia Emergency Departments The Medical Behavioral Unit (10 medical bed unit for children with medically and behaviorally complex care needs) The Pediatric Health and Behavior (PHAB) Psychiatry Clinic (subspecialty pediatric integrated/referral clinic) The BHIP Section Chief position is a leadership position, reporting to the Division Chief(s). As a direct report to the Division Chief(s), the Section Chief participates in and leads reports to the Division Chiefs for the Division of Integrated Psychiatry, Psychology and Behavioral Health and works closely with the other Section Chiefs (Pediatric Psychology, Neuropsychology and Assessment, Behavioral Health, and Crisis Center) and Administrative Leaders. The Section Chief will lead the section in partnership with medical and clinical directors. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to collaborate and partner effectively with psychiatry and psychology faculty and multidisciplinary clinicians. The Section Chief participates in and leads Section projects and initiatives, and acts as a Section ambassador internally and externally. They will be responsible for oversight of multiple programs within their section, including clinical accountability, quality improvement and patient safety, and clinical recruitment. They will be involved in advancing the strategic initiatives of the division and department. Educational responsibilities may include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in psychiatry, psychology, social work, and nursing. Training and educating the next generation of child and adolescent mental health professionals and leaders is a priority for the Section. Research or scholarship responsibilities may include participating, supporting or leading in child, adolescent, and young adult behavioral and health research. The Division of Integrated Psychiatry, Psychology, and Behavioral Health is a rapidly growing division that includes over 120 psychiatry and psychology faculty, mental health professionals (social workers, BCBAs, advance practices nurses) and administrators. The Division is responsible for a robust and broad range of clinical services across multiple hospital campuses and regional specialty care centers; this includes inpatient services (Consultation/Liaison Service, Medical Behavioral Unit, Cedar Avenue Inpatient Child and Adolescent Units, Sub-Specialty Pediatrics Integrated Pediatric Psychology, Neuropsychology and Assessment), emergency services (University City, Cedar Avenue, King of Prussia Hospital), and outpatient services (Sub- Specialty Integrated Pediatric Psychology, Sub-Specialty Pediatrics and Outpatient Neuropsychology and Assessment, Early Childhood, Pediatric Health and Behavior Program). Primary Care integrated care is not a part of this Division.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, management, and motivation to the Section

  • Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with Section leaders and direct reports
  • Responsible for disseminating information to faculty and staff in the Section
  • Encourages faculty and clinician participation in Section and Department activities
  • Exercises fiscal responsibility in the day-to-day activities of the Section
  • In collaboration with the Administrative Director, routinely reviews budgets, expenditures, professional charges, receipts, and Section activities
