About The Position

The Part-Time Section 504 Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the school’s compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Coordinator ensures that eligible students with disabilities have equal access to educational programs, services, activities, and accommodations. This position works closely with administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, school staff, and other appropriate personnel to facilitate the identification, evaluation, development, implementation, monitoring, and review of Section 504 plans. The Coordinator will maintain accurate documentation and help ensure the school meets applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Educational Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a school or educational environment.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 requirements and disability-related accommodations.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school personnel and families.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information appropriately.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving as a Section 504 Coordinator or working with Section 504 plans.
  • Experience in special education, student support services, school counseling, school psychology, or related areas.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing students with disabilities.
  • Experience conducting or participating in Section 504 meetings and eligibility determinations.
  • Experience providing staff training related to accommodations and disability services.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the school’s primary point of contact for Section 504 matters.
  • Coordinate the Section 504 referral, evaluation, eligibility, and plan development process.
  • Facilitate Section 504 meetings with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other appropriate staff.
  • Ensure Section 504 plans are developed, implemented, reviewed, and updated appropriately.
  • Monitor compliance with Section 504 requirements and school procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential Section 504 records and documentation.
  • Maintain a current database or tracking system of students receiving Section 504 services and accommodations.
  • Review student information and documentation to assist in determining eligibility under Section 504.
  • Assist school personnel in understanding and implementing approved accommodations.
  • Monitor the implementation of accommodations and follow up with teachers and staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify appropriate classroom and testing accommodations.
  • Review existing plans periodically and recommend revisions when student needs change.
  • Assist with the transition of Section 504 plans when students enter, transfer within, or leave the school.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with parents/guardians regarding Section 504 procedures, evaluations, plans, and accommodations.
  • Respond to questions and concerns related to Section 504 in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers and staff regarding their responsibilities under Section 504.
  • Provide training or informational support to staff regarding Section 504 requirements and implementation.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, school psychologists, nurses, teachers, and other service providers as appropriate.
  • Ensure Section 504 documentation is complete, accurate, current, and maintained in accordance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Assist with preparing documentation for audits, compliance reviews, or other school/district requests.
  • Maintain knowledge of current Section 504 regulations, guidance, and best practices.
  • Ensure appropriate procedural safeguards and parent/guardian rights are communicated when required.
  • Assist administration with addressing Section 504 complaints, concerns, and requests for review.
  • Participate in professional development related to Section 504 and student accommodations.
  • Attend staff and student support meetings as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, family, and employee information.
  • Perform other duties related to student support and compliance as assigned by the Principal or designated administrator.
