About The Position

Southwest Tennessee Community College is seeking a Secretary III (Grant-Funded) to join their Project M.O.S.T. department. This is a full-time, temporary position that reports to the Director of the Project MOST Grant. The role involves performing daily clerical operations, including managing correspondence, filing, preparing timesheets and stipend disbursements, and handling receptionist duties. This grant-funded position is expected to end on September 30, 2027.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two - five (2-5) years of general secretarial experience.
  • Knowledge of business English.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and filing systems.
  • Ability to type accurately from plain copy or rough draft.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
  • Ability to interact and work with co-workers, faculty, staff, students and the general public.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 30 wpm and possess good keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to record and maintain files accurately, in paper and software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with an ever-growing college population.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Exhibit emotional control and stability and stress management and coping ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite. May have knowledge of the computer.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Access, Publisher, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining accurate, complete, and up-to-date student records.
  • Greets all students and visitors cordially with courtesy and respect.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory records and typing reports.
  • Creates files for all program participants.
  • Maintains an accurate filing system.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
