Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • DESE licensure (Special Education SEI Endorsement Required
  • Three years’ experience in special education preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication and management skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the special education process and procedures from initial referral to eligibility determination to implement Individualized Education (IEP) plans.
  • Ensures all aspects of compliance and monitoring with IDEA and related special education law, regulation, and policy for students ages 6-22 years, as assigned.
  • Maintains electronic IEP database of all students on assigned caseloads.
  • Chairs IEP Team meetings and acts as the local educational agency (LEA) representative.
  • Oversee the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, as assigned.
  • Coordinates special education services among teachers and service providers.
  • Establishes effective relationships and communication with parents and families.
  • Develops & maintains scheduling/servicing of special education students, in conjunction with service providers and special education teachers.
  • Participates in the design, implementation and evaluations of specialized programs under the supervision of the Director of Student Services.
  • Fosters collaboration among teachers and paraprofessionals, through regular meetings.
  • Organizes and coordinates MCAS administration relative to accommodations of students with IEPs, as well as those participating in an alternate assessment.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior at all times and follow the policies and procedures as outlined by the school committee and district administration.
  • Formulates and provides guidance for ESY services with other members of the Special Education Department.
  • Performs other duties at the discretion of the Director of Student Services.
