About The Position

The International School of Texas is seeking to appoint a Secondary School Learning Specialist. This post is available immediately. The Secondary School Learning Specialist serves our Secondary School population and supports students with identified learning differences by providing appropriate interventions; supports teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning need within the classroom; and works with parents, students, and outside professionals in order to better support academic progress. This role focuses on the provision of targeted support, largely in Math but with other broader support areas, to students in grades 6-10 through individual and small group instruction. The Learning Specialist works to close achievement gaps, reinforce core concepts, and build student confidence. This role also involves close collaboration with classroom teachers to help students meet grade-level academic standards. The specialist’s broad area of responsibility is to ensure that each student may learn and flourish academically, socially, and emotionally, and upon graduation is prepared for a successful transition to college. The Secondary School Learning Specialist reports to the Head of Secondary School.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the subject area.
  • An understanding of independent schools and enthusiasm for IST’s mission.
  • Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement, including remaining knowledgeable about current instructional and curricular trends.
  • Ability to Relocate: Austin, TX 78738: Relocate before starting work (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience developing innovative curricula and engaging in pedagogical practices that focus on hands-on experiential learning.
  • Knowledge of IB would be advantageous.
  • Sense of humor.
