About The Position

The Secondary Math Teacher develops and delivers rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive mathematics instruction that empowers middle and high school students to become confident mathematical thinkers, problem solvers, and lifelong learners. The teacher creates an inclusive learning environment where all students are challenged to think critically, communicate mathematically, persevere through complex problems, and apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations. Using research-based instructional practices, formative assessment, and data-informed decision-making, the Secondary Math Teacher differentiates instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of learners while maintaining high expectations for every student. The teacher builds strong relationships with students and families, collaborates with colleagues to improve instructional practice, and contributes to a positive school culture that supports academic excellence, student belonging, and college and career readiness. Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a closely related field.
Valid Washington State Residency, Professional, or equivalent teaching certificate with a Mathematics endorsement (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
Demonstrated knowledge of secondary mathematics curriculum, instructional strategies, and effective classroom management.
Successful student teaching or classroom teaching experience at the middle school and/or high school level.
Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate educational technology into instruction.
Ability to meet all certification and highly qualified teacher requirements applicable to Chief Leschi Schools.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
Three or more years of successful secondary mathematics teaching experience with demonstrated evidence of improving student achievement.
Experience teaching a range of secondary mathematics courses such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Integrated Math, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Calculus, or Career and Technical mathematics.
Experience implementing MTSS, intervention strategies, and differentiated instruction to accelerate learning for students performing below grade level.
Experience using standards-based grading, formative assessment practices, and student performance data to guide instructional decisions.
Demonstrated success integrating technology into mathematics instruction using platforms such as Desmos, GeoGebra, graphing calculators, learning management systems, or similar instructional technologies.
Experience working collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on instructional improvement and student achievement.
Knowledge of or experience implementing culturally responsive teaching, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, AVID, Project-Based Learning, or other evidence-based instructional frameworks.
Experience working successfully with Native American students, Tribal communities, or other culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

Responsibilities

Develops and delivers rigorous standards-aligned mathematics instruction that promotes conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving.
Designs engaging lessons that encourage inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, and productive mathematical discourse.
Establishes and maintains a safe, inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive classroom environment where students feel supported and challenged.
Uses a variety of instructional strategies, technology, manipulatives, and real-world applications to increase student engagement and achievement.
Differentiates instruction to meet the academic, social-emotional, linguistic, and cultural needs of diverse learners, including students receiving special education, multilingual services, and advanced learning opportunities.
Utilizes formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning, provide timely feedback, adjust instruction, and improve student outcomes.
Analyzes student achievement data to identify learning gaps, develop targeted interventions, and accelerate student growth.
Implements Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) strategies and collaborates with intervention teams to support struggling learners.
Maintains accurate student records, grades, attendance, and progress monitoring documentation in accordance with district requirements.
Collaborates with counselors, specialists, administrators, paraeducators, and families to support students' academic and behavioral success.
Communicates regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievement, attendance, and strategies for continued growth.
Integrates technology effectively to enhance instruction, assessment, communication, and student learning.
Supports students in developing productive learning habits, perseverance, organization, and independent problem-solving skills.
Supervises students during assigned duties and school activities to promote a safe and positive learning environment.
Participates actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), curriculum development, collaborative planning, and continuous school improvement efforts.
Maintains current knowledge of mathematics content, instructional best practices, educational technology, and state standards through ongoing professional learning.
Sponsors or participates in student activities, clubs, competitions, tutoring, or other programs that enrich the educational experience when assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Administrator.
