About The Position

Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools (GCCS) is seeking a Secondary Electives Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. GCCS serves over 1,600 students from PreK-12 in Kansas City, Missouri, with a strong focus on supporting its predominantly Latinx and bilingual student population. The Secondary Electives Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in assigned elective courses, fostering student engagement, creativity, critical thinking, and career exploration. This role involves developing and implementing rigorous, student-centered learning experiences aligned with district curriculum and standards, while promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate appropriate for the assigned grade level and content area.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge and qualifications for assigned elective course(s).
  • Knowledge of instructional practices, curriculum development, and assessment strategies.
  • Knowledge of adolescent learning and development.
  • Ability to create engaging learning experiences that foster student interest and achievement.
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Commitment to educational equity and serving diverse student populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a professional learning community.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience working in an urban, charter, or culturally diverse educational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction in assigned elective courses.
  • Develop and implement standards-based lesson plans aligned with district curriculum and applicable Missouri Learning Standards.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to engage diverse learners and promote student achievement.
  • Connect course content to real-world applications, career pathways, and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and gifted students.
  • Maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom resources consistent with district expectations.
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives and performance expectations.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments.
  • Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
  • Provide regular feedback to students and families regarding academic performance and classroom expectations.
  • Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Establish clear classroom procedures and behavioral expectations.
  • Implement effective classroom management practices that maximize instructional time and student engagement.
  • Promote positive student behavior and support school-wide expectations and restorative practices.
  • Participate in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) processes as appropriate.
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and supports outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, English Learner plans, and other student support plans.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, counselors, interventionists, and support staff to meet student needs.
  • Attend IEP, 504, student intervention, and parent meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, counselors, and administrators to improve student achievement and school outcomes.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous growth consistent with Missouri Educator Standards.
  • Support school activities, programs, and events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
  • Adhere to district policies, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, and all applicable state and federal laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee.
