About The Position

Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) is a large global asset management organization with over 40 years of history and a presence in 26 countries. MSIM aims to provide outstanding long-term investment performance and a comprehensive suite of investment management solutions. The Morgan Stanley Private Equity Solutions (the Team) within MSIM focuses on delivering innovative private markets solutions across various asset classes, including primary fund investing, co-investing, and secondaries. The Team consists of over 70 investment professionals located in Philadelphia, New York, London, and Hong Kong, managing a global program in developed and emerging markets. The Team also has a strong focus on impact-oriented strategies. The Team has invested over $30 billion across more than 1,300 opportunities. The Team is seeking candidates, preferably with experience from investment banks, consulting firms, private equity firms, or private equity fund of funds, for an Associate position focused on secondaries investments, primarily LP-led. Investment professionals at the Associate level collaborate with senior investment professionals on deal teams, taking responsibility for investment analysis, research, and managing the investment process. The private markets program covers asset classes from venture capital to leveraged buyouts. This position is based in New York.

Requirements

• An undergraduate degree from a leading university
• 2-3 years of experience in private equity or investment banking
• Highly motivated self-starter with a team orientation
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Extensive quantitative modeling experience with an excellent understanding of financial concepts and valuation
• Exceptional project management and execution skills with an ability to meet challenging deadlines while maintaining a high degree of quality and accuracy
• A high level of intellectual curiosity in developing knowledge of private equity and capital markets

• Secondaries experience is a plus

Responsibilities

• Contribute to investment sourcing, opportunity diligence and evaluation, and portfolio monitoring by reviewing inbound investment materials, meeting with private equity fund managers, and assessing performance of specific companies and funds
• Contribute to the creation and execution of financial analyses in support of the secondary investment process (e.g., secondary fund pricing analyses, comparable company valuation analyses, LBO models, investment return projections with sensitivity analyses, track record analyses, etc.)
• Contribute to the creation and updating of secondary-specific marketing materials and initiatives
• Contribute to strategic initiatives with cross-functional teams related to technology, data/systems, marketing, business development, sourcing, and business planning
